Admissions Requirements

The person must have a strong interest in music and musical instruments, a clear goal for studying abroad, and strong motivation to study. The person also must meet the requirements written below.

1Age: Over 18 years of age by April 1st, admission year
Education: completion of 12 years of education at school (relevant to high school) or equivalent to this

2Japanese language ability must not obstruct one’s study, meeting one of the following requirements:

a. Holding N1 or N2 of the “Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)”
b. Scoring over 200 point in the “Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU)”
c. Completing over 6 months of Japanese language education with good record and high attendance, at a Japanese language education facility that is designated by the Minister of Justice
d. Scoring over 400 points in BJT Business Japanese Proficiency Test
e. Completing over 1 year of education in the school prescribed in Article 1 of the School Education Act

3Sufficient fund for tuition and living expenses is required.

Types of Admission

AO Admission (Early Admission)

Applicants must meet the minimum requirements for enrollment and you may also have to attended open campus, campus tour or summer program more than once.

Regular Admission

Applicants must meet the minimum requirements for enrollment.

Dates to entry for AO admission is:

June 1 ~ August 31

Application dates and deadlines for AO admission is:

June 1 ~ September 20

Application dates and deadlines for Regular admission is:

September 1 ~ March 17, 2019
Deadlines for Abroad Admission is November 20

Residents outside Japan (with no status of residence in Japan)

  • From September to November Applying to MI Tokyo
  • Submitting your documents

  • From October to early December Entrance examination
  • This can be done online and the interview by skype.

  • Candidates receive notification by mid December.
  • About two weeks after the interview, you will be notified by post when the results are finalized.

  • Enrollment Procedures
  • To reserve your place in the class you must reply and submit your tuition and documents required by due dates.

  • Applying for a “Certificate of Eligibility” (COE)
  • ICC of MI Tokyo will apply to the Immigration Bureau of Japan for the COE on behlaf of the student.

  • Tuition Payment (Due in February)
  • Once the COE is granted, and tuition payment is received, MI Tokyo sends it to the prospective student, who includes it with his or her visa application to the embassy/consulate.

  • Obtaining a College Student Visa at your local Japanese Embassy or Consulate (In March)

  • Entry into Japan (in March)
  • Once you land in Japan, you will be issued a Residence Card (Zairyuu Card) at the Airport or by mail at a later date to the address recorded in your visa application.

  • Entrance Ceremony & Classes Start in early April
  • The date and time will be notified to the candidates who completed the entrance procedure.

    (From October to late March)
  • Written Exam and Interview

  • Admission Result

Tuition basically includes materials, books, and supplies.

■MI awards ESP Gakuen scholarships every year to incoming students with demonstrated academic excellence and other exceptional qualifications. New students who complete an application for scholarship will be considered for the following scholarsdhips.
